Best man asked if he was wrong for ‘telling the truth’ about bridezilla in toast

Being a best man comes with a whole host of duties. You have to make sure that the groom is having a good time at his wedding, you have to organize the bachelor party, and you have to make a speech at the wedding. Making a speech may be the hardest task of all. You want to be funny and heartfelt without being too sappy or too offensive.

The best man involved in this wedding wasn't sure that he was able to strike that balance.

A Strange Set Of Rules

Each bride has a different set of rules and expectations for her big day. Some brides want flower girls and ring bearers while some want a child-free wedding.

Rules just kind of come with the wedding territory.

He wasn't sure if he was actually in the wrong or if the bride and groom were to blame.

He set aside $300 for a gift, and made sure that he would be able to attend all of the side events.

The bride sent the best man the rules she wanted him to follow on her wedding day. Those rules included the idea that the best man's wife couldn't wear a dress that highlighted her pregnant belly.

She didn't want anyone to focus on the baby more than her.

The best man also mentioned that the bride was disappointed that he couldn't pay for more of their events.

He wrote, "She said if I was a true best man, I would offer to pay for the bar bill."

The bride let the best man know that his speech could not include anyone but the bride and the groom.

She was also very against him mentioning any inside jokes that didn't include her.

He Was Upset

The best man wrote, "I was just so aggravated, I spoke to my friend to see if he could reason with her."

"He told me to just play ball on this one, it's her day and to cut him a break, because he'd be dealing with her nonsense for the rest of his life."

He Had Enough

The best man was so fed up with all of the insane requests that he decided to ignore the rules that the bride gave him about his speech.

He decided to say some things she definitely hadn't approved.

So What Did He Say?

The best man wrote, "I didn't give them the card with the cash and in the speech, I used my friend's exact wording about having to deal with her nonsense for the rest of his life."

"I wished them the best and told him I'd always be there for him, especially during the divorce."

What Do You Think?

So, what do you think? Was this public outburst justified or should the best man have just kept his mouth shut?

Maybe you agree with the sentiment but you don't think it was the time or the place.

Traditionally, newlywed couples were gifted the essentials to get them started. Things like small appliances, china sets, utensils, wine glasses, and decor were common gifts because young couples hadn't lived together prior to marriage.

More recently, couples have opted to request specific presents like cash or a gift from a curated registry.

Decades of returned and duplicate wedding presents have led couples who are tying the knot to consider creating a registry.

A wedding registry is a curated list of items from specific stores that are hand-selected by the engaged couple. The list is provided to all the guests attending the wedding.

A wedding registry is usually filled with plenty of options for items that range in price from low to high.

One bride managed to shock her wedding invitees with her extremely expensive wedding registry. She shared the outlandish request in a Facebook post that someone saved and shared to Reddit.

Her luxurious list included designer clothing and handbags, new flooring for her home, gift cards, cash, and even a new car.

Her list was filled with presents that mainly benefited the bride. If this wasn't enough, the major catch was her very specific price tag.

In the original screengrab of the Facebook post (that blocks out the bride's name), the bride very specifically states her minimum gift requirements ring in at the $400 price tag.

She takes it one step further by adding "I'll accept slightly lower amounts [than $400] as long as you tell me first."

This bride knew what she wanted and was not shy when asking for it. She said she wanted "any clothes OVER $400 from Calvin Klein, Moschino, or Nora's."

Aside from the designer bags and clothing, she also listed "any Korean or Asian beauty products totaling more than $400." Somehow none of these things seem like they'll be useful for her husband.

Nothing says I don't trust your judgment like asking for plain old gift cards. It definitely takes the sentiment out of buying a present - if there was ever any involved for this bride.

She listed her preference for gift cards to some of her favorite luxury stores including Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdales, Gucci, Nordstroms, and Calvin Klein.

If this woman has one thing, it's the audacity. She asks for a new car on her wedding registry, or anything related to the car.

That includes "new trim or anything in relation to the car."

Commenters on the post made it obvious that they thought this bride's standards were outrageous and fairly tone-deaf.

Her wedding registry demands were not received well and likely caused guests to consider (like this commenter) skipping the wedding altogether.
