Being a woman can feel like you're constantly being examined and scrutinized, from the music you like to listen to, to the way you look, to your life choices. I find women, myself included, are often apologizing for simply being ourselves and expressing our desires and opinions.
Well, enough is enough: Here are things that women shouldn't feel apologetic or ashamed about.
What She's Wearing
Women don't need to apologize for the style of clothing they wear or how much skin they show. It's her body, and she can choose to dress it however he wants.
Having Emotions And Expressing Them
Women tend to be dismissed or called illogical when they show an emotional response, but having feelings and expressing them is totally natural and shouldn't be shamed or considered a problem.
Not Wearing Makeup
Women shouldn't be expected to wear makeup every day or for events, and they shouldn't feel bad for opting not to beat their faces. It should always be their choice, and you should always avoid telling them they look tired when bare-faced.
Saying "No"
As women, we're often socialized to be agreeable and avoid rejecting requests from people. If you don't want to do something or don't have the time or capacity to do something, you should say "no" without beating yourself up about it.
Being Proud Of Her Achievements
We're often taught to be quiet about our accomplishments and to show modesty, but there is nothing wrong with celebrating your wins in life, whether it be in your career, education, or personal life.
Liking Traditionally "Masculine" Things
It's okay if you're interested in more traditionally "masculine" activities like football, automotives, or wrestling. There's nothing wrong with preferring to do activities and liking things generally considered to be "male" interests.
Liking Traditionally "Feminine" Things
Likewise, it's okay to be a woman who loves things that are traditionally feminine. People love to trivialize activities and items deemed "female," like doing makeup, getting your nails done, or watching The Bachelor, but you shouldn't feel stupid for liking typically feminine things.
Her Food Choices
How many times have you been out with women who'll say they've been "bad" based on what they've eaten recently? Women shouldn't feel like they have to shame themselves for what they choose to eat, whether it be cheesecake or celery.
Having Major Career Ambitions
While many men are encouraged to make their careers a priority, many women face scrutiny for sharing that same ambition. You don't need to apologize for putting your career goals first and aspiring to be in leadership.
Needing Help And Asking For It
Part of being a strong, successful woman is understanding when you need to ask for a helping hand. Women can be independent people and still want a hand carrying heavy items around.
Loving Her Body The Way It Is
There is no correct way to have a body, despite what media might show us. You can love yourself unapologetically no matter your skin color, body size, ability or disability, stretch marks, and cellulite.
