If you're a little girl who dreamed about your perfect wedding and used to love to force all the boys in the neighborhood to fake marry you, part of that dream was probably centered around your perfect dress.
The dress is one of the main expenses of the wedding for many couples, and women could try on dozens of different ones before finding the right one. One man put his foot in it though when it came to his fiancée's dress.
You Know It's Bad If You Turn To The Internet
One man, Reddit user paolde, went to the Reddit community to ask for an outsider's opinion on a recent situation with his fiancée.
From the title alone, you can tell that it's not going to be good.
After The Engagement Comes Wedding Dress Shopping
Once you've got the ring on your finger, many women start thinking about their wedding dress.
You want to find the perfect dress, and you need to do it far enough ahead of the wedding so that you have time for alterations. You'll probably go to a couple different bridal shops and try on who knows how many dresses until you find the one you love.
Nine Months Before The Wedding, She Found The Dress
The man's fiancée had been dress shopping "for months now," so clearly she knew what she was looking for and was determined to find it.
Lucky for her, after months, she found the dress!
Sharing In The Excitement
While many brides choose to keep their dress a secret from their future spouse until the day of the wedding, this bride did not.
She found the dress she loved and bought it, then was "too excited to keep it a secret" from her fiancé.
He Saw The Bridesmaids' Dresses First
After finding the bridesmaids' dresses, his fiancée showed him pictures and he told her they were "pretty." He thought they would match the groomsmen's suits well too.
They agreed on the bridal party, so they must have similar tastes, right? Apparently not in everything.
The Big Reveal
The moment of truth came for his fiancée to show him the dress she had picked out.
Remember that he knew how excited she was and he knew that she had already paid for the dress. That's important here.
So? What Do You Think?
She brought out the dress and asked him what he thought of it. This is where things went wrong.
"I specifically asked her if she wants the God's honest truth and wants me to critique the dress or if she knows she loves it and just wants to show me. She said she wanted my opinion."
She Said She Wanted An Opinion, So That's What She Got
"She put the dress on and came out of the bathroom and I would be lying if I said I wasn't a little disappointed."
He was not a fan of the dress. He said, "The dress completely dwarfed her and didn't really fit the wedding theme she has worked so far for."
She Went For The Full Princess Gown
"She chose a super sparkly dress with a HUGE skirt," despite the fact that their wedding theme was "foresty, magical, and whimsical, flower crowns on the bridesmaids, etc."
Apparently it was nothing like the "simple, body-hugging, sexy dresses she had been repeatedly showing me." He was a little surprised, to say the least.
"I Just Didn't Like How It Looked At All"
Since she asked for his opinion, "I was honest when I told her I didn't like it and I was surprised she picked it because it just doesn't seem to match her."
His fiancée was not happy about that response.
She Stormed Out Of The House
After hearing her fiancé's opinion, "she got really quiet and stormed back upstairs, then stormed out of the house and went to her mom's."
She even went so far as to text him later to say she couldn't believe he would dislike the dress, and then she blocked his number.
Most People Who Responded To The Post Tried To Be Helpful
Most people in the comments tried to give the man advice on how to fix the situation.
Everyone seemed to be in agreement though that there really was no winning in this situation. If she hadn't wanted his opinion, she shouldn't have asked, but also he could have thought about the fact that she already bought it before he said he didn't like it.
The Comments Inspired Him To Look At The Bill
After reading many of the comments to the original post, the user went back to check his credit card bill.
That's when he found out that the dress had cost $9,000. "Might help explain the reaction," he wrote in the edit.
